European Leaders Meet in Berlin to Discuss “Ousting Infantino”

Al-Taj News – European football leaders met on Wednesday to discuss finding a candidate and preparing a plan to oust Gianni Infantino from the presidency of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), according to the Associated Press.

This comes as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) called on its 55 member associations to attend a summit tomorrow, Thursday, in Berlin, amid European efforts to choose a new FIFA president.

Infantino’s failed plan to privatize World Cup rights, which was unveiled last July, prompted the UEFA administration to move to oust Infantino, amid a lack of confidence in the former European federation official.

UEFA’s plans include preparing a criminal complaint against Infantino in Switzerland over possible financial mismanagement in the deal to privatize World Cup rights, as well as asking U.S. courts to disclose evidence related to the case.

UEFA’s 55 members make up about a quarter of FIFA’s 211 associations, which are entitled to vote in the election to be held in Morocco on March 18.

According to the Associated Press, Infantino has already secured the support of about 90 votes, but before any potential challenger is announced.
